This technician position will support the advancement of Gore’s balloon and catheter technology. This individual will be responsible for helping to establish and maintain the capabilities within the catheter platform and for the assembly, testing and documentation of prototypes utilizing these new and existing capabilities. This role will provide input into development and modification of these processes, procedures, equipment and prototypes. This person will work to increase the engineering output of the platform by performing tasks which support the engineers and technologists on a daily basis.
This technician will contribute in the following areas:
Design/Prototyping: Must organize and conduct builds for novel catheter based delivery systems. Builds include the organization of raw materials, the hands on construction, and the documentation to allow for future repetition. Associate should have a good mechanical aptitude and high level design capability. Associate is expected to grow in their ability to layout, document, and draw conclusions from experiments.
Testing: Must be able to help in the development of tests, and do the hands on testing of samples. This role requires the retrieving and organizing data in a meaningful way and the insight to begin to provide interpretation of the data and observations.
Process: Must be able to layout a process, understand sources of variation, and develop ways to reduce the variation. This associate should be able to document a process in a SOP and train others to conduct builds. This associate will gain familiarity with all processes for making catheters and balloons and maintain a basic proficiency in them.
Laboratory: This associate will play a key role in creating an efficient safe work environment in the catheter lab. Tasks will include the organization of raw materials and processing aids, the setup of equipment and the practice of good safety habits. This associate will be one of the primary stewards of the lab, helping other associates utilize the capability.
A fundamental scientific understanding of ‘how things work’ along with the ability to apply math, scientific method and technical understanding to solve a problem will be required to help contribute to the engineering tasks. This position will require competence in the use of various measurement techniques/tools (Instron, Gauges, Calipers, etc) along with the ability to accurately convert between various engineering units.Qualifications
A 2 year degree in Science, Math, or Technology is preferred. A scientific approach to problem solving and a “hands-on” working style with demonstrated mechanical aptitude, quality in workmanship and familiarity with equipment is needed for success. Knowledge of the WL Gore quality system is a plus. Position requires a willingness to learn and participate in a small team. Individual thinking with team integration is essential. Manufacturing experience is a plus.
The successful candidate must have excellent writing and documentation skills along with the ability to work within Gore’s MPD document control system to perform and document SOP’s and equipment IQ/OQ’s as necessary. Other expectations include demonstrated effectiveness working independently and in team environments, effective communication skills, proven ability to manage multiple priorities, attention to detail, and a demonstrated hands-on approach with excellent follow through. Applicant must be proficient with MS Word and MS Excel.
