Job Description

As a leading manufacturer of vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, surgical meshes for hernia repair, and sutures, we are looking for a Catheter Design Engineer to join our team in Flagstaff, AZ.

In this role, you will investigate and develop new areas of growth potential for Gore’s catheter capabilities. You will perform early-stage design and pre-development activities for catheter and/or guidewire-based delivery systems, stand-alone catheter products, and related accessory devices in support of business development needs and Gore’s catheter technology efforts. As an integral contributor to the success of Gore’s interventional product portfolio, you will interact with a variety of disciplines across the Medical Products Division (MPD), including engineering, technology, biology, marketing, business, clinical-regulatory, legal, and leadership teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing Gore’s catheter systems technology
  • Integrating and transferring emerging and existing technologies and materials into Gore’s catheter technology capabilities
  • Ensuring the success of multiple prototyping and product-development activities that leverage Gore’s emerging catheter technologies
  • Understanding relevant patent art, and pursuing patent protection on catheter-related innovations
  • Designing, prototyping, and constructing innovative catheter-based delivery systems, stand-alone catheter products, and related interventional devices
  • Staying current with the portfolio of Gore catheter designs and incorporating best practices and applicable standardization in the development of new designs
  • Delivering design packages that include initial specifications, preliminary procedures, material sets, test methods, suppliers, and summary of work done along with early prototype systems
  • Driving toward a fundamental understanding of capabilities and materials used in Gore’s catheter systems and sharing this understanding to promote the use of the proper tools
  • Integrating state-of-the-art industry technologies and Gore’s technologies into Gore’s catheter technology portfolio through innovative catheter designs
  • Fostering technology transfer between ongoing catheter development projects and allied technology efforts throughout MPD, East Coast and West Coast operations, and the enterprise
  • Creating and assessing the feasibility of catheter system and/or technology options for downstream development partners, including development of accurate in vitro and in vivo test plans, models, and methods
  • Reviewing technical aspects of catheter-related projects as required by Gore’s quality system
  • Contributing to regulatory submissions
  • Collaborating with outside vendors on the outsourcing of catheter materials and components
  • Performing competitive intellectual-property analyses and cultivating an intellectual-property portfolio of catheter-related technologies


Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or materials engineering, OR an equivalent technical degree or experience
  • Proven history of catheter design
  • Experience:
    • Managing technology and/or design projects
    • Contributing as part of a small team
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptable, team-oriented working style
  • Self-motivation
  • Proven ability to identify, initiate, and drive tasks and projects to completion

Desirable Job Qualifications

  • Experience in/with:
    • Working as a member of a small team
    • Minimally invasive endovascular devices and/or Gore’s material sets
  • Knowledge of and experience with:
    • ISO requirements
    • Foreign and domestic regulatory submission procedures
    • GMP guidelines
    • Medical-device design control
    • R&D development cycles
  • Enthusiastic attitude toward catheter design, allowing for creative problem solving and efficient idea sharing
  • Creative
