Salary: Annually: $40,631.00 - $59,752.00
Uniform Allowance Provided. Candidates will be notified of testing date and must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on written examination. Applicants must successfully pass each part of the testing process to move into the next phase. Shift work applies. The background packet must be turned in four days following the posting close date. Under general supervision is responsible for technical work of moderate difficulty in law enforcement or investigative duties; performs related work as assigned.
Typical duties:

• Patrols assigned area to prevent crime, enforce laws and protect life and property
• Responds to and manages potential life-threatening and hazardous situations
• Responds to calls for Service
• Responds to, investigates, and documents allegations or reports of criminal activity
• Investigates traffic collisions
• Enforces traffic laws and issues traffic citations
• Assists with crowd control
• Assists in the execution of various writs, subpoenas and court orders, including civil process
• Interviews/interrogates witnesses and prepares reports
• Appears in court and/or hearings as a witness
• Administers first aid including exposure to blood and bio-hazardous materials
• Maintains chain of evidence pertinent to criminal investigations
• Will conduct criminal investigations
• Will participate in community policing activities as assigned
Essential functions of this position include: driving; working with and around other public officials, citizens and staff; dealing with interruptions; driving, writing, writing weapons qualifications, telephones, etc. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazards including mechanical, burns, electrical, explosives, chemicals, heights and others and exposure to adverse atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases and others.
Minimum qualifications:
Must be U.S. citizen, 21 years of age at time of appointment, high school graduate (or G.E.D.).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Certification by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) within one year of employment with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Must submit to a background search and successfully pass polygraph examination prior to employment.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
Preferences: Military experience; POST certification; Coconino County Sheriff's Office experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Working knowledge of:
- Relevant laws, rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement
- Law enforcement principles, practices, methods technique, and equipment
- County geography
- Relevant laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to civil process
- Law enforcement investigative techniques and practices
• Skill in:
- Conducting criminal investigations
- Preparing and maintaining records and reports
- Care and use of firearms, motor vehicles and other technical equipment
• Ability to:
- Learn and apply law enforcement principles, rules, techniques, and the proper use of issued equipment
- Act quickly and calmly with proper judgment in emergency situations
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, community groups, and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
